HDSB PA Day Agendas
On Professional Activity (PA) days, staff engage in professional development. Our school, along with all schools in the Halton District School Board (HDSB) have several Professional Activity (PA) Days throughout the school year. The purpose of these days is to enhance student success. Staff focus on professional development activities, participate in training or planning sessions. There are no classes for students on these days.

Timing/Format
Full day, in person at Clarksdale Public School
Facilitators:
Learning will be led by the principal, vice principal and our Child and Youth Counselor, supported with materials from central departments including Student Mental Health and Well-Being, and Safe Schools.
Learning Materials:
Staff will review effective practices, policies/procedures and resources prepared by central departments to support student and school safety.
The content includes violent incident prevention, bullying prevention and intervention strategies, prevalent medical conditions, vaping resources, cellphone use and PPM128. Emergency safe schools procedures, safe schools incident reporting, accident reporting and health and safety procedures will be reviewed.
Additional information:
Staff will spend time working together in grade team and division teams to to set directions for the school year and engage in learning focused on creating class community and equitable spaces for all students.

The learning will be led by the principal and vice principal and school-based staff, supported with materials and guidance from central departments including the School Programs Department.
Learning Materials:
Staff will review effective practices, policies/procedures and resources prepared by central departments to support student and school safety.
Staff will engage in learning related to effective practices and strategies for student literacy and mathematics learning and growth. Educators will engage in learning focused on implementing the revised 2023 Language/Francais Grade 1-8 curriculum. They will learn about principles and requirements for early reading screening as described in PPM 168: Reading Instruction and Early Reading Screening.
Elementary educators will also work collaboratively to develop a greater understanding of high-impact instructional strategies for mathematics as detailed in the curriculum, as well as the HDSB Math Achievement Action Plan.
Additional information:
School Focus: Staff will engage in learning in the areas of: Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Equity and Inclusion, with a specific focus on culturally responsive pedagogy and practice. A specific focus will be the HDSB Harmful Language Protocol. The principal, vice-principal and school leadership team will present information to staff as they collaborate in grade/division teams.

Description: Teachers will engage in student/parent/guardian/teacher conferences focused on Student Growth and Progress Reports.

Teachers have set out schedules for parents/guardians to sign up for a time to meet. If you are unable to make one of those times, please reach out to the teacher to set up another date.

Description: Teachers will engage in assessment and evaluation of student progress for Term 1 to communicate with students/parents/guardians through the Term 1 Report Card.

Whole group presentations and small group learning and planning
Description: Staff will focus on School Improvement Plan (SIPSA) work. All staff, including EAs will engage in Trauma training led by the school CYC. Teachers will have an opportunity to engage in grade team and group learning on Math Achievement, focusing on effective math strategies to create co-plans to support student learning. Additional learning will focus on supporting students in Literacy with a focus on small group instruction based on diagnostic assessment.

Whole group presentations and small group learning
Description: Staff will engage in professional learning focused on student mental health and well-being, engaging in mandatory learning and the implementation of PPM 169: Student Mental Health in Ontario. Educators will also have the opportunity to engage in further learning to support math instruction, focusing on building capacity with specific board resources to support student learning in the classroom. Staff will also further learning on supporting students with technology and the safe use of technology in the classroom. Grade 3 and 6 educators will also engage in training for the provincial EQAO assessment coming in May/June.
