What's Going On In The Den -- week of October 22nd

posted Oct 21, 2018, 5:51 AM by Neil Hammond

Happy Sunday Clarksdale Families,

We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend with friends and family.

Lots happening in the Den this week!

Free community presentation “Relationships Matter” by Mary Tabak from @OurKidsNetwork  hosted by CAPP for Kids Tuesday Oct 23rd 7 pm at Gary Allan High School.  See last week’s “Den” for more details.

Great Big Crunch Thursday

On Thursday, our students will be participating in the Great Big Crunch, in support of Healthy Eating.  At 2:00pm we will join together outside with our apples and enjoy a simultaneous C-R-U-N-C-H.  Apples have been donated by Drummond Farms, a local orchard, and will be washed and sent to classes, ready to eat.  Please watch the attached video – you will even see some Clarksdale faces in it!  If you do not want your child to receive an apple, please contact their teacher before Thursday’s event.

Many thanks to Halton Food For Thought for supporting our school’s healthy eating.

New Club Starting Thursday

Students in grades 4-6: The Paper Airplane club will be “taking off” this Thursday at 1st break.  Learn about flight and how to design a great flyer!  Thanks to Ms. Vandervelde for leading this fun new club.

Darksdale is this Friday!

Please plan on joining us for our annual Darksdale celebration on Friday, October 26th, from 6:30-8:00pm.  Great family fun and games  --- come to Hogwarts and enjoy all the Harry Potter fun!   Please feel free to bring a canned or boxed item to help our local food bank as we support We Scare Hunger.

Halloween Reminders:

With Halloween just over a week away, we wanted to remind parents and students of a few things regarding costumes.  We will be hosting a parade on October 31st:  students are invited to wear a costume, their spirit wear, orange and black or just “come as they are”.  All students who choose to participate will be part of our parade.

  1. please ensure your child’s costume does not create fear in others.  We are a kindergarten – grade 6 school, so please make sure you consider the age of all of our students when choosing your costume. Please avoid any costume that portrays a frightening image or character.
  2. For safety reasons, no masks are permitted and make-up can be fun and colourful, but should not depict scary or inappropriate images
  3. Please ensure that no toy weapons (i.e swords, toy guns, sabres etc) are brought to school

Lastly, a reminder that, due to allergies, we ask that you do not send in candy or food for Halloween.  Also, after Halloween, please be diligent in treats you may include in your child’s lunch, to ensure they continue to be nut free.  We do have many children and staff with life threatening allergies and we want to ensure everyone is safe.

We look forward to a fun celebration and a safe and happy Halloween.

We Scare Hunger/Me2We

Clarksdale is once again collecting non-perishable canned and boxed items in support of our local food banks.  More details will follow, but please consider donating an item or bringing one to Darksdale on Friday!  Please ensure you check the best before dates as they do not accept past date products.  Thank you for your help and kindness!
