posted May 14, 2018, 3:50 AM by Neil Hammond

Happy Sunday Clarksdale Families!

We wanted to wish a happy Mother’s Day to all those celebrating today.

Here is What’s Going On In the Den this week:

Congratulations to our grade 5 and 6 speech finalists

Congratulations to our public speaking finalists who shared their speeches with us on Tuesday. It was a very difficult decision as each one brought a wonderful combination of information and personal connection.  Special congratulations to Cameron and Shayla, who will be representing Clarksdale at the West Halton Public Speaking finals this week.

Multilingual Story Time
Monday, second break will be our first Multilingual Story Time for K - Grade 2 students. This week we’ll be reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in Farsi (Persian) and English.

If you are interested in sharing a story with our students in a different language, please contact Mrs. Podmore at  Please note that you do need to have a valid criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.

Ontario EcoSchools Visit

The EcoSchools assessors will be coming to visit Clarksdale on Monday, May 14. It is a time to celebrate our Eco Club's leadership and achievements and also allows Ontario EcoSchools the opportunity to provide comprehensive evaluation, rich feedback, and verify our school’s certification application. The assessors will have a conversation with members of the Eco Club and will then be taken on a walkabout of the school. It is an opportunity for our Eco Club to highlight their successes, reflect on their experience, plan for next year, and provide feedback on the Ontario EcoSchools program. Thank you to our Eco Club members for their hard work on all of our environmental initiatives this year! Go Green Clarksdale!

Good luck to our Relay Team

Students in grades 3-6 will be representing Clarksdale at our upcoming Relay meet on Tuesday at Frank J. Hayden SS.  They have been training hard to be ready for the big day and parents are invited to come and see this fun event.  Special thanks to Mme Dodgson, Mrs. Plas, Mr. Cassidy and Mr. Jivraj for coaching our teams.

Please remember that parking is limited, so please park on side streets as posted by parking signs and city bylaws, as well as the Norton Community Field across from the High School. The library and school lot are to remain open for patrons of the library and school staff.  City bylaw officers have been notified of the event and will ticket if bylaws are not being followed.

Fun Fair is just around the corner!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 12th for our annual fun fair.

Pre-order forms for food will be sent home soon and we really hope families will take a moment to fill these out and send them in.  It helps us to estimate quantities and make sure we have it all ready for when you arrive!

Also, a reminder that each class is creating a basket of prizes for the fair.  Please ask your child about their theme and consider sending in a few items towards it.

And we are still in need of volunteers, so please send in your forms this week.

Final Movie Night

Our final movie night will be on May 25th.  The movie is students’ choice, meaning we will be letting the students vote on their favourite.  We will let you know the winning choice next week!

Jump Rope For Heart is Here!

A reminder that Jump Rope for Heart is this Friday, May 18th Please make sure all pledge envelopes are returned --- and a reminder that online donations through Heart and Stroke website are welcome!

A reminder for EQAO

A reminder to parents of students in grade 3 and grade 6 that EQAO (the Ontario Provincial Language and Math Testing) will take place starting next week.  Our grade 3 students will be writing May 23-25 and our grade 6 students will be writing May 28-30th.
