What's Going On In The Den - week of November 11th, 2019

Happy Sunday Clarksdale Families,

Here’s what’s going on in the Den this week.

Remembrance Day Ceremony November 11th

We invite all students to join us in wearing red to honour our veterans for our Remembrance Day Ceremony on Monday at 10:15.  Parents are also welcome to join us as we acknowledge the contributions of our many veterans and current members of our military.

X-Dance coming to Clarksdale this week ~ Families are invited to join us!

X-Dance offers a variety of dance style from all around the world.  The focus of this experience is to celebrate diversity while providing the platform to build inclusion.  Students will explore a variety of dance styles over their 3 X-Dance Sessions.

Thanks to all the families who have already responded to our evening event.  It will be a great hour of learning, fitness and fun on Wednesday, November 13th , starting at 6:30pm. A flyer was sent home this week, so there is still time to RSVP either on the form or to

School Council Meeting:

Our next council meeting is this Monday, November 11th, at 7:00pm.  Hope to see you there to hear about all the great work happening at the school and within our council.

It’s Recorder Time

Students in grade 5 and 6 are encouraged to purchase their own replacement recorders if they have lost them.  White Soprano Recorders are available at Long and McQuade for $4.99 or can be purchased from the music teacher.  Class recorders are available for use, but it is preferable for each student to have their own to allow for practice. Please do not purchase recorders from the dollar stores as they are tuned differently.

Seussical the Musical is Underway

Auditions for the Seussical will be Tuesday-Friday this week during 2nd break for students in Grades 4-6 that have signed up with Mr. Reaume.

Primary Choir practices have begun on Mondays at second break. All students in grades 1-3 are welcome to participate.

Calling all 3 year-olds:  Kindergarten Information Session:

Future students and their families are invited to attend the following Kindergarten Open House, to be held this Thursday, November 14th at Alexander’s Public School (2223 Sutton Dr.) from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Progress Reports and Conferences are next week

Progress reports will be sent home with students on Monday, November 18th. Many of you signed up for your child’s conference/interview while at the Open House in September.  If you have not yet signed up, please contact your child’s teacher to select a time that works for you.

French Immersion Information Sessions

In the Halton District School Board, the entry point for the French Immersion program is Grade 2, where 100% of the instructional day is taught in French.  An information evening is scheduled for Burlington on Thursday November 28th, 2019, from 6:00-7:00 at New Street Education Centre, Brock Room (3250 New Street). This session will help address any questions parents/guardians may have before registering their Grade 1 child(ren) for the French Immersion program.

Registration for the French Immersion program is open to all Grade 1 students and will begin on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019.  The deadline for submitting your registration form is Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 at 4 p.m. No registrations will be accepted after this date.

Please visit the website for more details (Search “French”). Registration forms are available online or at the office.

Spirit Days

Each class grades 1-6, have two Spirit Leaders. At our first meeting, the spirit leaders shared their ideas of Spirit Days they would like to plan for this school year.

Each month Clarksdale will have a special spirit day. All children are encouraged to show their spirit by participating. This year we will be choosing some charities to support along with our spirit days. All children may participate in all spirit days and if you wish to support the charity of the month, please send in a loonie with your child. Our first spirit day is "Mustache Day." The charity chosen for this month is the Canadian Cancer Society. We are looking forward to seeing all the fun and fancy mustaches on Friday November 29th.
