What's Going On In The Den - week of November 25th

Happy Sunday Clarksdale Families,

It is hard to believe we are almost into December!  And another busy week to come in the Den!

Lots of Ways to share kindness at Clarksdale!

We appreciate all of the opportunities for students and families to Pay It Forward --- we recognize that supporting each one can be difficult--- so please know we are sharing these as options to consider, but there is of course no requirement for students to do all of these!

1)  Mustache Day November 29th!

For this month's Spirit Day, Mustache Day, the Spirit Leaders will be accepting donations for the Cancer Society and students are invited to wear their craziest mustaches on Friday.

2) Angel Tree and Hat/Mitten Tree:

We invite all families to participate in our fourth annual angel tree and hat/mitten tree collections.  Many families within our community need help over the holiday season and throughout the year and this is a wonderful way to do so.  Please consider donating a pair of mittens, hat or scarf to our mitten tree, located in the library.  Or come to the office and select a card from our angel tree.  Then, simply purchase a gift, suitable for a child of that age, wrap it and place it with the card attached (including a description of what is in the package) back under the tree. New toys, Lego, craft items, clothing, books etc. are all great suggestions. Gift cards are also welcome (e.g. grocery stores, Chapters, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Toys R Us).  We thank you in advance for your kind support of this important event.  We know that last year, we were able to support close to 25 families – and their appreciation was tremendous.

Movie Night

This Friday November 29th will be our second movie night of the school year. Doors open at 6:30pm and the movie starts at 7:00pm. The movie is Angry Birds 2 and is sure to be fun to watch!  Food and refreshments will be available to purchase.  A reminder that all students must be accompanied by an adult.  Admission is $1 per person.

Pets on School Property

We are so happy to see so many families walking to school, instead of driving! Thank you for helping to keep our parking lot traffic to a minimum. We know that many of you have special 4-legged members of your family that often come for the walk to school. Many of our students love dogs; however, we do have some students who are fearful of pets or have allergies to pets. For this reason, we do ask that you please keep your dog on leash at all times.  We also ask that you avoid walking through the kindergarten area with dogs and remain at the edge of the blacktop.

Thank you for helping our children feel safe!

Music News:

Primary choir during on Monday and Wednesday during 1st break in the music room.

French Immersion Information Sessions

A reminder that the French Immersion information session is being held on Thursday, November 28th, 6-7 pm at the New Street Education Centre/Gary Allan High School, 3250 New Street.  Please note that individual schools will not be hosting information nights at this time.  Additional information is available on the Halton website at

Registration begins December 6th and the deadline for registrations is January 31, 2020.

Clarksdale Holiday Arts Evening – Wednesday, December 11th, 6:00-7:30pm

This year Clarksdale students and staff will once again be hosting a holiday craft evening, celebrating the many cultures and traditions we enjoy at Clarksdale and beyond.  Students of all grades are invited to join us with parents/guardians for an evening of crafts and song.  Registration forms will be sent home this week.

Book Fair Coming Soon!

Please come out to support Clarksdale's library! Last year was a huge success and we are hoping for a repeat this year!  Details regarding Book Fair hours will be shared next week.

Also, our library collection has recently been weeded due to the age of the books and would really appreciate any donations of new books!  Please consider buying an extra book at the fair to donate to our school collection and help refresh our library!

Last call for Lost and Found

Many thanks to those who have visited our Lost and Found table to retrieve missing items.  We still have items left, so if you have not done so, please take a moment to come by.  Any items left unclaimed by November 29th will be donated.

Optional Attendance

We have just received confirmation that Clarksdale is open to optional attendance for grades 2-6 English students for 2020-2021.  If you have a new student who would like to register for optional attendance here for next year, please visit your child’s home school and fill out an optional attendance form.  You can then still submit them to us, for consideration once we see the projected numbers and registrations for the upcoming year.  Please note, optional attendance requests should be made between December 1st and January 31st.
